Gender-Swapped Versions Of Sexist Ads From The ’60s Will Give You The Creeps

How does it feel to see an ad in which a man is consigned to the kitchen?

These ads are apt to make many feel strange and uncomfortable — not just because the originals are sexist, but because the flipped versions are equally bizarre for our outdated notions of gender roles.

And don’t even get me started on this spanking ad.

Rezkallah said this photography project was inspired by one of his Thanksgiving visits at home. Apparently, listening to his relatives talk wistfully about the days of defined gender roles was enough to inspire Rezkallah to flip those very same gender roles on their head.

“Last Thanksgiving, I overheard my uncles talk about how women are better off cooking, taking care of the kitchen, and fulfilling ‘their womanly duties,'” he writes on his website. “Although I know that not all men like my uncles think that way I was surprised to learn that some still do, so I went on to imagine a parallel universe, where roles are inverted and men are given a taste of their own sexist poison.”
