White House staff secretary Rob Porter’s resigned this week amid allegations of physical abuse from both of his ex-wives, adding yet another tally to the steadily increasing number of Trump aides who have been unceremoniously fired or have stepped down in disgrace.
While Twitter is certainly well aware of this reality, one photo tweeted out in December of 2017 really encapsulates the number of professional casualties in the Trump administration: a candid shot of former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, followed by Omarosa Manigault-Newman, Anthony Scaramucci, Rob Porter and Sebastian Gorka (looking like the worst Ocean’s reboot ever).
Here they talked of revolution,
Here it was they lit the flame,
Here they sang about tomorrow
And tomorrow never came. pic.twitter.com/ohB4bVNAAS— southpaw (@nycsouthpaw) December 13, 2017
Just to recap:
- Omarosa Manigault-Newman was reportedly dragged “kicking and screaming” from the White House last December after being told that she was fired. The White House, however, claims that she resigned to “pursue other opportunities.”
- Corey Lewandowski was fired before Trump secured the Republican nomination in 2016, thanks to disagreements with Reince Priebus and a misdemeanor battery charge.
- Anthony Scaramucci was fired in July of 2017 after working as White House Communications Director for only 10 days, thanks to his expletive-ridden interview with a reporter in which he bashed Steve Bannon and Reince Priebus.
- Sebastian Gorka was apparently “forced out” of his role as White House Advisor in August of last year.
With Rob Porter’s resignation in the face of his abuse scandal, Twitter seems to feel that the photo deserves a second look — and a second roast.
(In December, I didn’t know the blurry dude in back was Rob Porter, whose chair is empty now too)
