Yesterday, O’Neill took to Twitter to take Trump to task for his little parade idea.
A military parade is third world bullshit. We prepare. We deter. We fight. Stop this conversation.

So not only did he use some tough language to call out the president, but he also succinctly summarized the American military’s entire mission statement. Then he evoked the 2003 Iraq invasion (a.k.a. Thunder Run, a.k.a. Battle of Baghdad) before reminding everyone of what Trump wants us all to ignore: Russia.
We had a parade once. It was 2003 and we called it a Thunder Run. Someone remind Vladimir ….

Lots of people supported the troops, by which we mean they thoroughly agreed with O’Neill.
You're absolutely correct. As a Navy veteran myself I find this parade appalling. It's so very North Korean……….

The phrase of "third world"doesn't really apply to Russia, either. The point should be that there is no such tradition for military parades n the USA, and for the reasons that the Nave Seal already detailed. It's not what we do, or have ever done.

Oh God you get a folow for this one!! Stop this conversation is right!

Exactly! While vets are homeless, and the VA is broken he wants to spend millions on a parade to "honor" our vets? He should honor them by keeping his promise and fix the VA! This is nothing but an ego trip for Trump! It's infuriating

I’m Canadian. I’ve always admired the fact that the United States, the most powerful nation in the world, never feels the need to flaunt their strength with vulgar, empty spectacles. Such displays aren’t worthy of a great and noble nation. #Trump doesn’t get it.

A Veterans parade would be nice. I just don't want a ridiculous show of force parade like North Korea. The World knows what we have, it's tacky to make a production out of it. It's also a huge amount of work for the soldiers.

I am left center. You are not. But I greatly appreciate your willingness to protect our fundamental right to disagree. We are the strongest country in the world not because of our military but because of the freedoms that our military protects. Thank you for your service.

Agree 100%. Lets use that money (and more) to help our veterans reaclimate to our society, whether its finding them jobs or helping them cope with the cost of being a hero.
