Wendy Williams Just Roasted Her Own Audience For Getting Sensitive About Michelle Wolf’s Monologue

This year’s White House Correspondents Dinner has certainly managed to become the social event of the season — in terms of the sheer number of “controversial” sound bites, anyway.

While the press spends most of the year rightfully lambasting the Trump administration for its untruths and ineptness, the audience at the dinner was apparently utterly appalled when comedian Michelle Wolf took White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, to task during her monologue.

People were so scandalized by Wolf’s audacity that the press practically bent over backward to defend the woman who, up to and including this moment in time, has willingly withheld the truth from the American people.

Apparently, the press was more concerned with maintaining their access to the White House than they were with any sort of comedic retribution.

Wendy Williams wasn’t about to sympathize with Sarah Huckabee Sanders, though. During William’s show on Monday, she polled her audience about Wolf’s routine, saying, “Honestly clap if you think that it was an off-color joke that she made and it’s not right to criticize other women’s looks.”

There was a smattering of applause, most notably from two white women sitting towards the front of the audience.

“Well you’re at the wrong show, Rachael Ray is downstairs,” Williams (semi-jokingly) told the women. “I will call the elevator for you right now.”

The women laughed, and Williams was obviously joking — but still. That’s a hot cup o’ tea, Wendy!

Now, it should be noted that even Williams is perpetuating the somewhat misguided notion that Wolf somehow criticized Sanders’ appearance when she mentioned her “perfect smoky eye.” Obviously, this remark had less to do with Sanders’ eye makeup and far more to do with her complicity in the Trump administration’s subterfuge. Wolf was plenty mean during her monologue, but she generally only took aim at people’s policies and behaviors (except for when she made fun of Chris Christie’s weight and Mitch McConnell’s flabby neck — but, um, everyone seems to have forgotten that portion of the evening).

Regardless, I am inclined to echo Williams’ same basic sentiment: if y’all are offended that Michelle Wolf called out Sarah Huckabee Sanders for lying to the press every damn day, then y’all can just go downstairs and watch Rachael Ray.
