Trump Praised For ‘Bringing Merry Christmas Back To The White House’–But Twitter Has The Receipts

Thanksgiving is over and done with, so it’s time to start thinking about Christmas “the War on Christmas.” Each year, somebody gets bent out of shape with the culturally and religiously inclusive act of wishing someone “Happy Holidays” because they think it means we’re collectively erasing Christmas or some such nonsense. Naturally, President Donald Trump has latched on to the “Christmas First!” movement, opting for traditional Christmas decorations and explicitly stating “Merry Christmas” in the First Family’s holiday card.

Todd Starnes of the always “fair and balanced” Fox News took notice and wrote an editorial praising Trump for “bringing ‘Merry Christmas’ back to the White House. Saying “Merry Christmas” is something he actually promised during his 2016 presidential campaign. “Thank you, Mr. President for being a man of your word,” Starnes wrote, “a man who is not ashamed to say, ‘Merry Christmas.’”

Proud soldiers in the frontlines of the War on Christmas voiced their support on Twitter:

But then came the detractors, to point out that the hubbub about “Merry Christmas,” particularly during the Obama administration, is, to use Trump’s language, “fake news.”

That’s when writer Parker Malloy posted a whole thread of the Obamas “being Christmas-y and stuff.”

For example: Here’s the former First Family wishing us a Merry Christmas:

The best part of the holidays is the time we share with those we love. On behalf of Michelle, Malia, and Sasha, Merry Christmas everyone.

And again, as “a special thank you to all our men and women in uniform.”

From the Obama family to yours, Merry Christmas! And a special thank you to all our men and women in uniform this holiday season.

Here’s a particularly jolly “Merry Christmas” from Barack and Michelle:

“Merry Christmas, everybody!” —President Obama

In January 2014, he even wished a Merry Christmas to Coptic Orthodox Christians, who celebrate Christmas in January:

“Michelle and I wish Coptic Orthodox Christians in the United States and around the world a joyous Christmas.” —President Obama

Seriously, was President Obama ever not wishing us a Merry Christmas?

“I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a joyful holiday season.” —President Obama during the lighting of The National Tree
