Some contemporary British people, who are white, and think that “real” British people are also white, are having a very hard and very racist time dealing with this newly reveled scientific and historical information. Anti-immigration biases may have affected the Brexit vote, and they’re also influencing people’s feelings about maybe having descended from people who have a skin color different than their own.
Fortunately, there are enough people out there to both counter the ignorant rhetoric and celebrate this discovery for what it is: an amazing cultural and scientific breakthrough.
