Are you the kind of person who seems to make friends wherever they go? Or maybe are you the kind of person who has a hard time making last friendships? Well, the bad news and good news, respectively, is that it might not be totally your sparkling personality or your fault: It might just depend on where you live, work, or go on vacation.
InterNations is an organization which helps link people around the world who live and work outside of their country of origin. Its annual report, Expat Insider 2017, features the findings of its annual study of what countries are the friendliest…and unfriendliest.
According to the “Finding Friends” subindex, these are the 10 easiest places to make pals (out of the 67 countries Inter Nations examined).
- Costa Rica
- Mexico
- Argentina
- Uganda
- Malta
- Bahrain
- Oman
- Cambodia
- The Philippines
- Colombia
So, if you want to go somewhere where the people are, according to science, friendly, head to Central America, South America, or Southeast Asia.
Conversely, these are the countries that Inter Nations finds to be the hardest in which to get yourself a buddy. (So then, what’s your deal, Scandinavia? Why so harsh?)
- Sweden
- Denmark
- Norway
- Switzerland
- Kuwait
- Qatar
- Germany
- Austria
- Finland
- Saudi Arabia
On social media, some people did not agree with the rankings…
We may be very weird towards strangers but when you get to know us swedes we become very friendly and wants to hang out on a Fika with you
Rubbish!! – My personal experience is very different for several countries!!
…While others thought they made perfect sense.
Another reason to go to Costa Rica
It is very sad in Sweden.
