Star Wars: The Last Jedi is certainly the most anticipated movie of the year, and probably of all time. (Or at least since the last Star Wars movie came out, and until the next Star Wars movie comes out.) It hits theaters next Friday, December 15, and will probably quickly earn a billion dollars. But what actually happens in The Last Jedi? Disney and director Rian Johnson haven’t revealed much. We know, for example, that Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is a central part of the plot this time, and that Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) continues his descent into darkness. But other than that, the scuttlebutt has been mostly spoiler-free.
But the truly important question: Is it any good? These questions and others are starting to get answered, because the sci-fi spectacular had its big, star-studded world premiere last night in Los Angeles.
Good news: The Force seems to be with the creators and cast of The Last Jedi. The lucky handful of Hollywood insiders and Star Wars superfans in attendance immediately starting gushing on Twitter. Not only does the eighth Star Wars episode appear to be a great movie, but it’s a great movie in a lot of different ways to a lot of different people.
It’s AMAZING. Just amazing. Have a lot to process, but WOW. #lastjedi

#StarWarsTheLastJedi floored me. @rianjohnson and the team nail so much – thrills, laughs, heart and most of all, pushing the characters/overall franchise a major step forward. Some really rich material to explore in the future. Can't wait for more.

THE LAST JEDI has more goosebump moments than any Star Wars movie I can remember. I was grinning for most of the 2 and a half hours. A worthy and great Star Wars film. The franchise is in great hands. Kudos to @rianjohnson

Mark Hamill himself had to evoke the Beatles to properly express his feelings.

Not only are Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill at their very best as Leia and Luke in this movie, but Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver blow Rey and Kylo Ren out of the park. I didn’t expect where those characters went and it’s my favorite part of the movie. #TheLastJedi

Adam Driver in THE LAST JEDI obligingly serves the most STAR WARS beefcake since Luke went sleeveless on Dagobah
