Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl. We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care. North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister.
According to the statement, the as-yet-unnamed baby girl was born on January 15 at 12:47 AM, weighing 7lbs and 6oz.
Initially, Kim’s decision to use a surrogate garnered some criticism among fans who assumed that the decision was spurred by vanity.
so kim is getting a surrogate because she wants to keep her body not health reasons 🤔 #tellmethatsnottrue #KimKardashian pic.twitter.com/4nYasX4j6g

However, Kim has since detailed the complications she experienced during both of her previous pregnancies, and it’s become apparent that her decision to use a surrogate was supported by her doctors and her medical history. During Kim’s pregnancy with North, she experienced undiagnosed preeclampsia (a “dangerous pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure“), and the placenta buildup during her pregnancy with Saint was so severe that it actually perforated her uterus.Â
So, perhaps don’t be so quick to judge Kim for following doctor’s order and using a surrogate.
Although, if you’d like to judge her just a tiny bit for posting this selfie shortly after her daughter was born, then that’s fine.

Honestly, though, I’m still impressed.
Congrats, Kimye! I can’t wait to hear your dramatic, monosyllabic new baby name!
