Justin Timberlake Explains Where ‘Sexy’ Was Before He Brought It Back–And It All Makes Sense Now

In 2006, Justin Timberlake shed his frosted-tips and oversized-sweater-scarred past as a member of NSYNC with “SexyBack,” an irresistible chunk of electro-pop that wound up being one of the biggest hits of the decade. It also spawned a catchphrase, with goofy dads to this day talking about they’re “bringing sexy back” with their new jeans or whatever.

But more than ten years later, “SexyBack” raises more questions than it answers. Notably, sexy was gone? And nobody noticed? But then Justin Timberlake, the guy with frosted tips and oversized sweaters from NSYNC is the guy who brought it back? What happened to the sexy, Justin? Where did it go and how did you retrieve it? The public demands answers!

Last night, Timberlake appeared as a guest on CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and in a sketch, Colbert asked Timberlake the question we’d all want to ask.

COLBERT: When you brought the sexy back where had it gone?

TIMBERLAKE: Wow. No one has ever asked me that. Sexy was actually just the name of my neighbor’s rabbit. You see, they were in Nebraska for the weekend, and I was pet-sitting. But they were worried I wouldn’t return the rabbit. So I just wanted to assure them, via song, that I was, indeed, bringing Sexy back.

Twitter people were amused and relieved (although in a very tongue-in-cheek way).

Finally!

Others somehow made it political, because that’s what the Internet is now.

We need sexy back in the White House!!!

Somebody else claims that he brought Sexy back, of course.

I had it…. Then I took it back my bad

If anything, we’re all just relieved that Sexy is safe and sound.
