The Electric Slide was one of the biggest fad dances of the 1980s. Every school dance, bar mitzvah, and wedding back then was guaranteed to include a bunch of people getting up to do the funkiest of funky line dances. As Martha Griffiths’ “Electric Boogie,” the unofficial Electric Slide theme song informed us every time, the Electric Slide was irresistible, in that it was “electric! Boogie woogie woogie woogie.”
The peak popularity era of the Electric Slide is long past, but it’s apparently cool again, because if Beyoncé and Jay-Z do something, it’s automatically cool. They’ve both got a strong sense of musical and pop cultural history, and they both grew up in the ‘80s, so of course they both still know how to slide.
What is Black Excellence? #BlackExcellence is @Beyonce, #JAYZ & their family doing the electric slide! 💃🏾 pic.twitter.com/YaFvEqit5P

Footage has emerged of our real First Couple doing the Electric Slide at a kiddie birthday party. (Along with Beyoncé’s mom, Tina, among others.) Now, Twitter generally gets overly delighted whenever Jay and Bey do something fun, but since this is a retro dance at a kid’s party, this was basically an early, much appreciated Christmas present.

The fact that Beyonce has her purse on and Jay-Z throw his hands up on every turn confirms that 2017 was the Blackest year ever.

Does nobody else notice her in those thin 8 inch heels carelessly dancing and not missing a step?! pic.twitter.com/9vIoIbrDJL
