If you don’t know who Danica Roem is, you should. The 33-year-old Democrat made history this month when she was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates, making her the first transgender woman to ever hold that seat. She also defeated her opponent, Republican Bob Marshall, who is well known for being extremely anti-LGBTQ. Clearly, it was a monumental moment for not only Virginia but America overall. As Drake said, “What a time to be alive.”

With politics being such a controversial arena as of lately, it’s imperative that those in the spotlight speak out about issues they feel most strongly about. Staying silent during a time like this helps absolutely no one. At this year’s American Music Awards, Demi Lovato took a stance when she decided to invite Danica Roem as her plus one. Both Lovato and Roem looked absolutely gorgeous on the red carpet.
