Republican Congresswoman Says Pornography Is The ‘Root Cause’ Of School Shootings

With the rise in school shootings and gun violence across America, many people are wondering–why?
While every story has a different (yet similar) background as to how these horrific incidences occur, victims, citizens, and officials are day-by-day fighting to end this common occurrence that continues to happen week after week in America. Why do people feel the need to take innocent lives with guns? How does this happen? Why is it continuously happening?

One Republican congresswoman from Tennessee apparently has an answer–and I promise you, it’ll make your blood boil. Representative Diane Black–who happens to be running for Governor of Tennessee–says that “pornography is to blame for the rise in gun violence across the nation.” Wait, what?

According to the Huffington Post, while speaking to a group of ministers, Black claimed that pornography is one of the few reasons gun violence keeps happening today.

“It’s available on the shelf when you walk in the grocery store. Yeah, you have to reach up to get it, but there’s pornography there. All of this is available without parental guidance. I think that is a big part of the root cause.”

She did not go into detail about what it is about pornography that makes people react violently or with the use of weapons–but she also blamed the “deterioration of the American family” and violent movies for the rise of gun violence as well.

After media outlets reported on the comments made, many people on Twitter had some thoughts on the matter.
