During a committee meeting at the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Tuesday night, Republican representative Daryl Metcalfe was leading a meeting about land use legislation. Democratic rep Matthew Bradford had the floor and was speaking, and when making a point casually touched Metcalfe’s arm.
Evidently he did it in an extremely sexual way, because Metcalfe came unglued over being touched by another dude not seen since middle school. Instead of saying “hey, don’t touch my arm,” as a civilized, rational, chill person would do, Metcalfe went on a long rant about how he is a manly, manly, vagina-loving man who does not like dudes and cannot ever be touched by a dude and if you touch him you are probably gay, as are all other Democrats.
“Look, I’m a heterosexual,” Metcalfe said. “I have a wife, I love my wife. I don’t like men, as you might. Stop touching me all the time!” After the room broke out in derisive laughter over his ridiculous reaction, Metcalfe continued, “It’s like, keep your hands to yourself. Like if you want to touch somebody, you have people on your side of the aisle that might like it. I don’t.”
“We’re officially off the rails here,” Bradford replied, who, not that it matters, is married to a woman and is just the kind of guy who talks with his hands.
This is not the first time Metcalfe has gotten really, really mad about guys touching other guys. For example, when the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage in 2015, Metcalfe called it “judicial tyranny” and that it violated “God’s law” and “natural law.” When interviewed about his outburst, Metcalfe told a Philadelphia news station that his coworker touching his arm was another example of how “the homosexual crowd thinks that they can, you know, flaunt their sexuality routinely throughout the course of the day and throughout our government now.” He added that he’d told Bradford several times in the past to stop touching him, and that he’d had enough.
Democrats in the Pennsylvania house are calling for Metcalfe to resign. People on Twitter, however, are suggesting deeper-seated issues with Metcalfe.
