Anyone who tuned in to NBC at 11:30 p.m. last night received a rude surprise: Saturday Night Live wasn’t on. Not even a rerun! No, NBC’s regularly scheduled programming will not be seen for the next two weeks so that it may deliver around-the-clock coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympics from Pyeongchang, South Korea. However, the best cast member from SNL is still going to be around. NBC Sports brought on Leslie Jones as a special correspondent.
Jones delivered her hilarious and enthusiastic takes on events from the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, and they were so well-received that NBC wants as much Leslie Jones being Leslie Jones as possible for these winter games. But they can’t have her on the air all the time. Fortunately, Twitter is always on, and that’s where Jones has been live-tweeting as many events as possible.
It is, in a word, delightful. Jones is, of course, hilarious, and her tweets are largely of the short video variety. Plus there’s no censoring of bad words on Twitter like there is on network TV, so Jones can say whatever she wants, completely uncensored.
