If you’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War, it’s unlikely that you thought to yourself “Gee, this movie really needs more superheroes.” If anything, you probably have your superhero fill for life (or, like … a month). However, you may be curious as to whether Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, AKA the “Merc with a Mouth,” will manage to find his way into any future Avengers movies.
Reynolds decided to address this possibility head-on (and congratulate his fellow superheroes) — by sharing a photo of Deadpool’s apparent “rejection letter” from the Avengers.
Written by Tony Stark, the letter simply responds to the apparent request to join the Avengers team by saying, “No. Absolutely not. Go bother Prof. X. No.”
From a guy who never knows when to quit, I’m glad you guys never did. Congrats #Avengers. pic.twitter.com/voJshTKx5E

Fortunately, it sounds like he’s not too bitter!
Obviously, Twitter was in love with Reynolds’ sassiness, and everyone agreed that it sort of makes sense for his character to be a superhero pariah.
“Re: Joining the Avengers
No.
Absolutely not.
Go bother Prof. Xavier.
Love,
Tony Stark”???

I mean, could you imagine such a foul-mouthed superhero elbowing his way into a supposedly family-friendly film franchise?
Can you imagine how Infinity War would have gone with Deadpool in the mix?

Deadpool has a potty mouth, he can’t be around Peter

What would an R-rated Avengers movie be like?
Avengers would instantly go from a PG to R rating once you chime in!

In all seriousness, Reynolds’ relationship with the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a bit complicated. While his antihero character was originally created by Marvel Comics, 21st Century Fox technically owns the rights to Deadpool — which meant that the “Merc with a Mouth” couldn’t actually be featured in any of Disney’s Marvel movies.
That is, until now.
Disney recently acquired Fox, which means that (*gasp*) the Marvel Cinematic Universe can now include Deadpool and X-Men characters going forward.
So, Reynolds’ tweet could very well just be a lighthearted joke … but it may also be a hint of Marvel superhero cameos yet to come.
