Stranger Things Star Joe Keery Tells Seth Meyers He Wasn’t Prepared For Those Tight ’80s Jeans

Joe Keery— famous for his role as Steve on the Netflix hit Stranger Things as well as for his enigmatically thick head of luscious hair— appeared as a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers to talk about how he prepared for the show. And also his hair. Obviously.

He revealed how he’d gone through six weeks of intensive training and swimming prep because the Duffer brothers told him his character was a jock on the swim team. He got into “the best shape of his life” only to have that detail completely cut out of the series.

Keery also shared how he was not a fan of the very tight ’80s jeans Steve had to sport. “They don’t tell you that in the casting,” he tells Meyers, who compares them to the corsets worn by women in Jane Austen. “It’s like you’re wearing a baseball glove,” says Keery, “You’re having to duck and run around but you’re trapped.”

“Denim is chainmail” retorts Meyers.

The host then had to remark on Keery’s hair, because that will forever be a topic of conversation. “Your hair receives a lot of ink,” he noted, holding up headlines from several publications to demonstrate his point.

The conversation then veered to Joe Keery’s high school jobs. One of them was a pizza delivery guy, which he totally sucked at on account of GPS not existing in those days. He also shared a funny story in which a very unhappy old customer received his pizza late, and wrote “pizza delivery is not for you” on the back of Keery’s receipt.
