Court Doubles Length Of Oscar Pistorius’ ‘Shockingly Lenient’ Murder Sentence

When someone commits murder, the majority of times they’re sentenced to life in prison. But, when you’re a celebrity or an influencer, it seems as though you get off a bit easier than the average Joe. In 2013, Oscar Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. According to Pistorius, he thought Steenkamp was “an intruder” and shot her four times through a closed door. He was originally charged with manslaughter, but, in 2015 the ruling was overturned to just a murder conviction. This meant that he could have a parole hearing as early as 2019 – which, is pretty lenient with a murder charge. Anyone with a half a brain would know that the sentence was not fit for the charge, at all.

Now, Pistorius’ prison sentence has been extended to 13 years and five months after South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeals intervened.

The Supreme Court stated Pistorius “displays a lack of remorse, and does not appreciate the gravity of his actions.” And, honestly, he probably did, knowing that he got off so easy on murder charges. While Pistorius may have been an inspirational athlete being a Paralympic champion and record-breaker, it does not overweigh the seriousness of his crimes and bring peace to Reeva’s family. Now, people are finally happy that he got the rightful sentence he deserves.

Other people thought the sentence was still not long enough.
