William Shatner Blasts Facebook Over Fake Ad Claiming He’s Dead

Facebook has been under fire lately for both failing to put a stop to the spread of misinformation or “fake news” and for allowing unscrupulous data mining companies to walk away with millions of users’ private data. With so few friends left (pun intended), you’d think they’d be wary of making more enemies, but they just earned another one: Captain James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner.

A Twitter user alerted William Shatner to an eyebrow-raising Facebook ad claiming the Star Trek actor was dead:

The ad was for something caled “Avocet retail sale” and Shatner was NOT happy with their premature obituary.

Shatner wasted no time putting the besieged social media platform on blast:

And Facebook responded with warp speed:

Things are good when you’re the captain of the flagship of the Federation’s fleet.

Shatner thanked Facebook and kindly let them know he’s planning on living long and propsering, something every Star Trek can agree on.

So remember, next time you see “William Shatner” trending, it’s probably because he’s in a beef with a social media platform, and not because he’s boldly gone into the great unknown.
