Hugh Jackman Admits Why He Actually Turned Down The Role Of James Bond

Hugh Jackman would’ve made a really good Bond. He is the perfect blend of handsome and saucy, brave and suave. Plus, have you seen the man in a suit?

But while he could’ve and maybe should’ve been 007, he wasn’t. Through every fault of his own. The actor revealed in a recent interview with Variety that he was sought as Pierce Brosnan’s replacement for the role of James Bond at one point— an offer he decided to turn down.

“I was about to do X-Men 2 and a call came from my agent asking if I’d be interested in Bond,” Jackman when asked why. “I just felt at the time that the scripts had become so unbelievable and crazy, and I felt like they needed to become grittier and real.”

The actor wouldn’t get a say in how the James Bond story went and the part ended up going to Daniel Craig. Jackman has no regrets. “I always tried to do different things,” he said. “But there was a time between X-Men 3and the first Wolverine movie when I could see the roles getting smaller. People wanted me to play that kind of hero part exclusively. It felt a little bit claustrophobic.”

We understand. But it’s still not too late!
