Kate Winslet Just Helped Fix The Ending Of ‘Titanic’— And It’s About Time

For years, nay, decades fans of James Cameron’s epic Titanic have been asking: Why did Rose let go immediately after saying she “never” would? Furthermore, wasn’t there room for Jack on that floating door? (Yes.) We finally have the answer we’ve been waiting two decades for, and you know it’s legit because it comes straight from the proverbial horse’s mouth.

Kate Winslet appeared on “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert to talk about the movie now that it is being re-released in select theaters in honor of its 20th anniversary, and he said to her what we’ve all been rhetorically saying to her out loud all this time— “In the famous line you say, ‘I’ll never let you go, Jack,'” says Colbert, “But you do!”

“I lie!” the Oscar-winning actress said. “I fully lie. I hold my hand up, I let him go. Plus, he just should’ve tried harder to get on that door.”

The two proceed to come up with a way, way better ending to the movie…

But not before Colbert asks some very important Titanic-related questions.

“How often do you listen to Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On?” Absolutely never.

“Was the sweaty handprint scene scripted and how sweaty did it get in that car?”  I don’t think it was scripted, I think we came up with it on the day, it did get quite sweaty in the car, but we were spritzed down with spray Evian bottles to make us look really, like we were in the throes of, you know.

“Did you really get pneumonia after filming the scene in the water?” No, but I did get hypothermia.

And, most importantly, “Could you keep a straight face when you said ‘draw me like one of your French girls?'” You’ll have to watch yourself to find out the answer to that one. Also, LITTLE KNOWN FACT: Leo did not draw THE picture…but James Cameron did. Some movie trivia for you.
