A BBC Presenter Just Fell Into A Swimming Pool On Live TV—And The Internet Lost It

When BBC reporter Mike Bushell was assigned to interview a team of swimmers, he didn’t realize he’d end up in the pool as well.

Bushell was preparing to chat with swimmers representing England at Australia’s Commonwealth Games and ended up falling into a pool on live television. It was schadenfreude elevated to comedic gold by timing– immediately after he said “I’m going to be careful because I’ve got a sound pack on,” he missed a step and dove into neck-deep water, causing his mic to die and the swimmers to burst out laughing.

“I didn’t see the step,” he said. “Sorry about that. Well, that’s given you all a good laugh… just look before you get in a swimming pool in the future.” He then joked, referring to the news crew, “all the people here are literally on the floor.”

Needless to say, the interview was cut short. The Internet’s love for Mike Bushell, however, was not.

“I just thought it was a little Jacuzzi or a kids’ pool,” said Bushell. “I didn’t realize there was a step there.”
